Venous leg ulcer at its typical site in the distal leg. The ulcer is moist and covered with a membrane, and the surrounding skin looks indurated. Varicosis is also apparent. In elderly patients ulcer healing is, however, often hampered by concomitant presence of both venous disease and arteriosclerosis. Vascular investigations are therefore usually warranted in patients with a leg ulcer.
