A supernumerary (accessory or ”third”) nipple is found in approximately 5% of the population. It is usually located somewhere along the so-called milk line extending from to armpit to the groin. It is easily mixed up with a common naevus. Treatment is not needed. Sometimes the supernumerary nipple is associated with a breast-like bulge, that may even contain functional mammary tissue.
