Fulminant rosacea (rosacea fulminans) is the most severe form of rosacea. Solid slab-like areas oozing pus as well as single deep pustules with purulent discharge develop in the face. Corticosteroids are usually prohibited in the treatment of rosacea, but in this type of the disease the patient may need systemic corticosteroids, and under corticosteroid protection a course of isotretinoin may be started.
