In reticular erythematous mucinosis (REM), well-defined reddening and sometimes thickening appears on the chest (and sometimes on the back). It may be lacy or spotted and very much resembles seborrhoeic eczema. However, there is no scaling and the patient is usually a young woman. Aetiology is unknown and the diagnosis is confirmed by skin biopsy.
