Perioral dermatitis (POD) is uncommon in children but it should be kept in mind in the differential diagnostics of atopic eczema, irritant dermatitis or impetigo, if these are refractory to treatment. Erythematous papules and eczema extending from the nasal wings to the perioral area are symptomless. Sometimes the condition is caused by prolonged use of topical corticosteroids or excessive creaming of the skin.
