A neurofibroma is a pouch-like soft skin-coloured or light brown tumour of the skin. When pressed with a finger it will retract inside the skin like a hernia. Multiple neurofibromas are associated with hereditary neurofibromatosis, i.e. von Recklinghausen's disease. Other skin manifestations associated with the disease include café au lait spots [зображення 00841|Café au lait spots] (more than 6) and freckle-like spotting of the armpits.
