Congenital naevi are associated with an increased risk of melanoma. In small naevi with a diameter of less than 2 cm the risk is probably insignificant, but in a middle-sized naevus like this (diameter 2–20 cm) the risk is somewhat increased and this kind of naevi are often excised. In large congenital naevi the risk of melanoma is clearly increased.
