In contrast to a hypertrophic scar, a keloid clearly grows beyond the margins of the original scar. Ordinary pimples may also trigger extensive keloid formation especially on the chest and in the shoulder region. People with black skin colour are clearly more predisposes to keloids than people with a lighter skin. It is advisable to inform the patient about the risk of keloid formation when contemplating a surgical intervention.
