A. A 17-year-old man crashed his motorcycle and suffered a Grade III b open tibial fracture. The bone has been shortened by 3 cm and all the devitalized tissue has been removed. The fracture has been stabilized with an external fixation device.

B. The fracture has been covered with the latissimus dorsi muscle that is connected to the blood vessels. The muscle is covered with a free skin graft.

C. Situation 1.5 years after the injury. The tibia has been lengthened by 3 cm and the fractures are healed.
