Recurring herpes is always milder than the primary infection. However, the severity of symptoms varies individually. The (recurrent) condition presented in the picture cannot yet be classified as eczema herpeticum but it is worthwhile to consider initiation of peroral acyclovir as soon as the first symptoms are felt by the patient.
