The swellings associated with a venous leg ulcer have been treated with compression bandages and the ulcerations have been cleaned. Whole-thickness skin grafts taken fom the thigh are placed sparsely on the ulcer surface and fixed with a combination of greasy gauze, padding, zinc oxide ointment and bandaging. All the grafts were vital after one week. The swelling was later controlled with custom-made compression stockings. Neglecting this would destroy the whole treatment.
