Eosinophilic folliculitis belongs to the skin symptoms of the late phase of HIV infection. Diagnosis is based on histopathology. The mechanism is probably an immunoinflammatory reaction to the normal skin flora, in a situation of severe immunologic depression. In most cases the HIV infection has caused other symptoms in an earlier phase.
