Erysipeloides is an uncommon infection in humans, mainly in persons working in agriculture and fishing. In this patient Erysipelothrix rhusiopathiae was probably transmitted from poultry. The red, slightly tender area reached the present extent in a couple of weeks. The culture was successful from a small biopsy specimen. Oral penicillin V is curative.
