Recurrence of HSV (or a primary infection) may spread rapidly on the face: eczema herpeticum, i.e. Eruption varicelliformis Kaposi. This eruption must be treated immediately with oral acyclovir or its analogues. This patient with redness in the eyes must be referred to an ophthalmologist immediately (risk of herpes keratitis).
