As a newborn this child had a murmur and mildly congested left pulmonary artery. This condition, which is considered physiological in a neonate, has normalized and the echocardiography finding is completely normal. No murmur is heard on auscultation, nor is a murmur seen on the phonocardiogram. Note normal background noise in the spectrogram. Closer inspection of the phonogram shows that during inspiration, as the pressure of the thoracic cavity decreases, not only does the pulse accelerate and the physiological splitting of P2 become narrowly visible, but the increased stroke volume is also visible as a small midsystolic ejection sound, and S3 is also seen. These sounds are barely distinguishable on auscultation. They are physiological findings associated with the increase of stroke volume. Age 0.3 years, height 55.0 cm, weight 4.6 kg. Auscultation area: left second intercostal space (LIC2).
