An erythema migrans (10 x 14 cm) of seven days' duration. Note swelling around the joint. The skin of the ankle was tender, and the disease could have been erroneously diagnosed as arthritis. Borreliosis (B. garinii) was verified (for research purposes) by culture from a biopsy taken from the lesion.
