A rapid streptococcal antigen detection test allows the diagnosis of group A streptococcal infections from a throat swab. The sample (throat swab extract mixed with reagents) is placed in the left lower corner of the test plate. A minus sign (as shown in the picture) denotes a negative result, a plus sign denotes a positive result. The method is slighly less sensitive than overnight streptoccal culture and does not detect non-A beta-haemolytic streptocci.
