Skin prick testing is usually carried out on the ventral forearm skin. The size of the weal is compared with a standard histamine weal (and standard negative control test). A prick test can reveal the immediate type of allergy. In a standard test pattern, usually the pollens of trees, grasses and compositae flowers, and the epithelia of domestic animals are studied. In the clinical interpretation of the results expert skills in allergology are needed.
