Herpes zoster in a young child is very unusual. This 7-month-old boy was born during an epidemic of varicella in his family. He had no signs of varicella, and the serum sample taken at the onset of HZ was negative. Two weeks later the level of antibodies to VZ virus was positive. Probably he was infected during the first days of his life, but was protected at that moment by the antibodies received from his mother. Because of nasociliary nerve affection he was treated with parenteral acyclovir. No ocular complications developed.
