Melasma, chloasma, "mask of pregnancy" is more common in mediterranean type skin, as in this picture. Pregnancy and sun are known provocators. Topical agents containing hydroquinone are often beneficial. The patient should be advised to use sun protecting preparations regularly during sunny periods.
