Options for surgical treatment of a mallet fracture. A) The fracture fragment is fixed directly in place with a thin Kirschner wire. B) The fracture is fixed indirectly with the so-called extension block method. In both cases, the DIP joint is immobilized for 6 weeks with another Kirschner wire.
