Despite its name, Becker’s naevus does not consist of naevus cells. The number of pigment cells is neither increased, so there is no risk of cancer. Pigmentation is often relatively scattered and rather unnoticeable in childhood, but becomes darker in adolescence, especially in boys. Variable hair growth also occurs.
