Plantar tinea often spreads to the lateral border of the foot - sometimes even as high as in the photograph. The causative agent is T. rubrum. Such a widespread plantar tinea indicates the possibility of a specific immunological defect in the antifungal defence mechanism, and oral antifungal medication is recommended.
