A myxoid cyst at the level of the proximal nail fold may cause a longitudinal depression on the nail plate. The nail can return to its normal shape only if the cyst is removed. Skilful surgery is most effective, but puncture, opening of the cyst with subsequent exposure to solid silver nitrate, or liquid nitrogen cryotherapy can also be tried. Recurrence is not uncommon with any method of therapy.
