Herpes zoster (HZ) is a unilateral reactivation of latent Varicella-zoster virus infection. In the left chest area the prodromal pain may simulate stenocardia. In elderly people, post-HZ pain may be chronic and severely invalidating. In immune compromised patients HZ is a life risk and specific antiviral therapy should be instituted without hesitation.
