Plantar viral warts grow "inwards", are surrounded by reactive hyperkeratosis (callus) and may be painful on walking. The multiplicity of therapeutic manoeuvers reflects the fact that none of the used methods are consistently effective. It is good to keep in mind that viral warts also disappear spontaneously with time. Any therapeutic method leading to scar formation should be avoided.
